Introduction

The Lao Network Operators Group (LANOG) is dedicated to promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and understanding among network operators within Laos. To ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all participants, we have established the following Code of Conduct that outlines expectations for behavior within our community.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all LANOG events, online platforms, and community interactions, including but not limited to in-person meetings, workshops, and online forums.

Expected Behavior

  1. Respectful Communication: Treat all community members with respect. This includes using inclusive language, actively listening, and valuing diverse perspectives.
  2. Constructive Participation: Engage in discussions in a spirit of collaboration and support. Focus on solving problems and sharing knowledge rather than criticizing individuals.
  3. Inclusivity: Welcome and encourage participation from all individuals, regardless of their background, identity, or level of expertise. Be mindful of language and behavior that may marginalize others.
  4. Empathy and Kindness: Encouraging members to demonstrate empathy and kindness towards each other, and to give and accept constructive criticism.
  5. Professionalism: Maintain professionalism in all interactions. This encompasses being courteous, punctual, responsive, and following through on commitments.
  6. Confidentiality: Respect the privacy of others by keeping personal information shared within the community confidential unless given explicit permission to share.

Unacceptable Behavior

  1. Harassment: Harassment in any form, including derogatory remarks, personal attacks, and unwanted advances, is strictly prohibited.
  2. Discrimination: Discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or any other status will not be tolerated.
  3. Disruptive Behavior: Aggression, intimidation, and disruptive actions that hinder others’ ability to participate are not acceptable.
  4. Misrepresentation: Do not misrepresent your affiliation, qualifications, or experiences within the community context.
  5. Unauthorized Recording: Please do not record any meetings or events unless given permission by all involved participants.

Consequences of Unacceptable Behavior

Violations of this Code of Conduct will be addressed promptly. Depending on the severity of the infringement, consequences may include:

  • A private warning
  • Temporary or permanent removal from online platforms or community events
  • Reporting to professional bodies or authorities if necessary

Reporting Conduct

If you witness or experience any behavior that contradicts this Code of Conduct, please report it immediately to the designated LANOG community team, either by email Enable javascript or by reaching out to anyone found on the “Community Team” page.

If the person you are wanting to report is on the community team, please communicate with multiple other community team members, or if required (based on severity of the claim) report to the local authorities.

LANOG prioritizes the confidentiality of the reporter, ensuring their identity is not shared with the individual being reported.

Conclusion

By participating in the LANOG community, you agree to uphold this Code of Conduct. Together, we can create a welcoming and supportive environment for learning and collaboration.
